Pioneer Astronautics Team Member

Nicholas Jameson has a B.S. in Physical Science and Biological Science from Colorado State University. He has been working at Pioneer Astronautics since May of 2005. In 2007, Mr. Jameson served as the lead engineer on the Phase 1 Stratospheric Deployment Parafoil project. He has one patent pending for advanced parachute technology.

In his time working at Pioneer, he has also worked on the NASA Phase I Mars Gashopper Airplane and on the DARPA Phase II SBIR Sea Glider. On the Gashopper Airplane, he worked on system design and construction. In the Sea Glider program, he has worked to perfect a nitrous oxide dissociation reactor which can be used to produce gaseous nitrogen and oxygen very quickly from liquid nitrous oxide. He is in the process of integrating this system into a buoyancy propulsion system for a propellerless submarine.

He has extensive experience with parachute design and packing. He has been an FAA licensed Senior Parachute Rigger since 2000. As a rigger he has wide knowledge of all common parachute types and their flight characteristics. He also has in depth knowledge of parachute design variations including various reefing systems, cross-bracing, bottom skin venting used for inflation and air locks. His experience as a parachute rigger has included: approximately 150 logged reserve parachute pack jobs, approximately 5000 main parachute pack jobs, approximately 200 Fixed-Object (BASE) pack jobs of parafoils; these are packed like reserve parachutes, the manufacture of line sets for main and reserve parachutes, the repair and modification of main and reserve parachutes, in depth knowledge of parachute airworthiness testing including kiting, test drops from fixed objects, low and high speed drop tests from airplanes and live test jumping, experience with many different types of parachute reefing and deployment systems, and in depth knowledge of common parachute system problems and their solutions.
